3/ Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe

Some websites have described Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe as the greatest horse race in the world. However, it only ranks third in our list of top five horse races in the world. It is because the race has yet to reach Derby’s lengthy history. In 2020, the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe will celebrate the 100 years of racing.

Many people think that such a race is held in Qatar. It is a fact that the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe is organized on the Longchamp Racecourse in France, following most of the promotional materials.

Known as the Arc, this race is considered as the second richest race in the world, behind the Everest. With a prize purse of $5.5 million, the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe is the most prestigious racing event in Europe.

4/ Dubai World Cup

Dubai World Cup is the newest horse race in our list, with the first horse racing just over two decades in 1996. However, it offers an amazing prize purse of $12 million. The race is held on the Meydan Racecourse, Dubai, UAE on the last Saturday of March annually.

The Dubai World Cup has recently won the crown as the richest horse race in the world. The race lost this title in 2017 to the Pegasus World Cup. However, the American horse race reduced its prize purse by $7 million to $8 million in 2019.

The Dubai World Cup is part of the Dubai World Cup Night Event, whose overall purse reaches under $30 million.

5/ Kentucky Derby

Started in 1875, Kentucky Derby is the world’s most famous horse race. It is the primary leg of the Triple Crown and takes place on the first Saturday of May annually.

It is known as the Fastest Two Minutes in Sport with the participation of three-year-old thoroughbreds racing a ten-furlong track. The event draws a huge crowd, with 158,070 attendees in 2017.
